Senate HELP Committee advances four Trump labor nominees on party-line vote

The Senate Health, Education, Labor, and Pensions (HELP) Committee has voted to approve four of President Trump’s nominees for positions at the National Labor Relations Board (NLRB) and the Department of Labor. The committee, led by Chairman Bill Cassidy (R-LA), advanced the nominations on a party-line vote of 12-11. These nominations will now proceed to the full Senate for a final decision.

The approved nominees are Crystal Carey for General Counsel of the NLRB, James Murphy as a member of the NLRB, Rosario Palmieri as Assistant Secretary of Labor for Policy, and Anthony D’Esposito as Inspector General at the Department of Labor.

In remarks delivered before the vote, Cassidy stated, "President Trump is focused on delivering the most pro-worker administration in history. To do this, he needs officials with strong experience and a commitment to put workers first. The nominees before us are aligned with the President’s vision."

Cassidy continued, "If confirmed to the National Labor Relations Board, Mr. Jim Murphy and Ms. Crystal Carey will prioritize workers and ensure their rights are protected under federal law. They will restore stability for both workers and employers, and work to clear the backlog of cases left by the Biden administration."

He also addressed Palmieri’s nomination: "As Assistant Secretary for Policy at the Department of Labor, Mr. Rosario Palmieri will work with Congress to modernize the Department of Labor, creating greater flexibility for states to administer workforce programs."

On D’Esposito’s nomination, Cassidy said, "If confirmed as DOL Inspector General, Congressman Anthony D’Esposito will help drive President Trump’s mission to reform the federal bureaucracy and eliminate waste, fraud, and abuse."

Cassidy concluded his remarks by saying, "These nominees have demonstrated they are committed to implementing President Trump’s pro-worker, pro-family agenda. I proudly support their nominations and urge my colleagues to do the same."

The committee has now advanced 32 Trump administration nominees under Cassidy’s leadership.
