Raw Bistro Pet Fare, based in Cannon Falls, Minnesota, has announced a voluntary recall of two sizes of its frozen beef dog food due to potential Salmonella contamination. The recall affects the "Raw Bistro Dog Fare Grass-Fed Beef Entrée, Frozen" in 3-pound bags (UPC 858833002247) and bulk 18-pound cases (UPC 858833002629), both from lot number 239 with a "Best By" date of August 27, 2026. The products were distributed directly to consumers and select distributors in California, Colorado, Illinois, and Minnesota between September 1 and September 17, 2025.

The company stated, "Salmonella can affect animals eating contaminated products and poses a risk to humans from handling such products, especially if they have not thoroughly washed their hands after contact with the food or any surfaces exposed to it."

People infected with Salmonella may experience symptoms such as nausea, vomiting, diarrhea (which may be bloody), abdominal cramping, and fever. In rare cases, more severe health issues can occur. The company advises consumers who develop these symptoms after handling the recalled product to seek medical advice.

Pets that contract Salmonella may show signs like lethargy, diarrhea or bloody diarrhea, fever, or vomiting. Some pets might only have decreased appetite, fever, and abdominal pain. Infected but otherwise healthy pets can still transmit the infection to other animals or humans. Pet owners are encouraged to contact their veterinarian if their pet has consumed the recalled product and shows symptoms.

The recall was initiated after a sample collected by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) from a distributor tested positive for Salmonella. According to Raw Bistro Pet Fare, "To date, no illness of pets or humans related to this lot has been reported." The recall is being conducted voluntarily in coordination with the FDA.

Consumers who purchased the affected products are instructed not to feed them to pets or other animals and not to sell or donate them. All pet food bowls, scoops, utensils, storage containers, and surfaces that came into contact with the product should be cleaned and sanitized. Hands should be washed thoroughly after handling pet food or any exposed surfaces.

Customers can return the recalled products to the place of purchase for a refund or dispose of them in a way that prevents access by children, pets, or wildlife. For questions about the recall, consumers can email hello@rawbistro.com or call/text (507) 291-3153 during business hours Monday through Friday CST.

This action is being taken in cooperation with the FDA.
