U.S. Secretary of Labor Lori Chavez-DeRemer expressed support for President Trump's recent measures aimed at reducing the costs associated with fertility treatments. During an event at the White House, President Trump announced a new agreement intended to bring significant savings on such treatments.
Following this announcement, the U.S. Department of Labor, in collaboration with the Departments of Health and Human Services and Treasury, released guidance to assist employers in structuring health benefits that expand access to fertility treatments like In Vitro Fertilization (IVF). "President Trump is once again keeping his promises by taking decisive action to make health care more affordable for women," said Secretary Chavez-DeRemer. She added that the departments are working together to provide flexibility for employers and insurers aiming to broaden fertility benefits.
The guidance aligns with Executive Order 14216, titled "Expanding Access to In Vitro Fertilization." It clarifies how employers can offer fertility benefits through specific policies or reimbursement arrangements. Additionally, the departments plan to propose new rules that would offer more options for providing limited excepted fertility benefits.
Furthermore, there is consideration of changes to standards regarding supplemental health insurance coverage provided by group health plans. This includes evaluating whether supplemental fertility coverage meets conditions for being classified as an excepted benefit.
