Americans are experiencing the lowest gas prices in over four years, with the national average for gasoline dropping to $2.98 per gallon, according to GasBuddy. This marks the lowest intra-day price since 2021, and experts predict that prices will likely remain at these levels for the coming months.
GasBuddy reported, “Currently, 35 states have average gas prices below $2.99/gal, and GasBuddy even recorded the first $1.99 cash price at a station in Evans, Colorado, with stations in Oklahoma and Texas not far behind.” The statement continued: “Barring any major disruptions, gas prices are likely to remain slightly below year-ago levels and could stay under $3 for much of the next few months.”
The drop in fuel costs comes as President Donald J. Trump emphasizes American energy production as a central part of his economic policy. During his campaign and presidency, Trump has repeatedly highlighted energy independence as a means to support economic growth and reduce consumer expenses.
In contrast, during President Biden’s administration, average gas prices remained above $3 per gallon for most of his term.
