The United States has extended its congratulations to Takaichi Sanae on her election as Prime Minister of Japan. The announcement came after the Japanese Diet selected Takaichi for the position.
A statement from the U.S. government said, "The United States congratulates Takaichi Sanae on her election by the Diet as Prime Minister of Japan. We look forward to working with her government to further strengthen the U.S.-Japan alliance and realize our shared goals. Together, we will deepen cooperation, build economic prosperity, and strengthen regional security."
The statement also acknowledged the contributions of former Prime Minister Ishiba Shigeru, noting, "We also express appreciation to former Prime Minister Ishiba Shigeru for his commitment to pursuing a new golden age for U.S.-Japan relations and upholding a free and open Indo-Pacific."
The U.S.-Japan alliance has long been considered a cornerstone of regional stability and economic cooperation in the Indo-Pacific region.
