Brian D. Miller appointed interim U.S. attorney for Middle District of Pennsylvania

Brian D. Miller has been appointed as the United States Attorney for the Middle District of Pennsylvania, effective October 27, 2025. The announcement was made by the United States Attorney’s Office for the Middle District of Pennsylvania. Miller’s appointment comes by order of United States Attorney General Pamela Bondi and will last for 120 days or until a Presidential appointment is made.

President Trump nominated Miller for the position in September 2025, and his nomination is currently pending Senate confirmation.

Miller previously served as Inspector General for Pandemic Recovery after being confirmed by the United States Senate on June 2, 2020. His career includes roles such as Senior Associate White House Counsel, Inspector General of the United States General Services Administration (confirmed by the Senate on July 22, 2005), Senior Counsel to the Deputy Attorney General, Assistant United States Attorney in the Eastern District of Virginia, Special Counsel on Health Care Fraud for the Deputy Attorney General, and Counsel to the United States Attorney for the Eastern District of Virginia. In addition, he served as Acting General Counsel of the Department of Housing and Urban Development in 2025.

During his tenure as a federal prosecutor, Miller handled both civil and criminal cases across multiple federal courts. His cases included matters related to terrorism and terrorist financing, drug-related conspiracies and murder, as well as False Claims Act litigation. As an inspector general, he conducted investigations such as one into a lavish GSA conference in Las Vegas.

Miller has received several honors throughout his career. "Mr. Miller was honored to receive the Attorney General’s Distinguished Service Award, the EOUSA Director’s Award for Superior Performance as an AUSA, and the David M. Walker Excellence in Government Performance and Accountability Award, which recognizes and honors government audit professionals who have made sustained contributions to improve government performance and accountability through their leadership in transforming government organizations."

He replaces John C. Gurganus, who had been serving as Acting United States Attorney and now serves as First Assistant U.S. Attorney within the office.

Miller earned his bachelor’s degree from Temple University and a law degree from the University of Texas School of Law. He lives within the Middle District of Pennsylvania.
