Senator Chuck Grassley, Chairman of the Senate Judiciary Committee, delivered remarks in support of Rebecca Taibleson's nomination to the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Seventh Circuit on Monday, October 27, 2025.

Grassley highlighted Taibleson's academic background and her experience as a law clerk for two U.S. Supreme Court Justices: Justice Scalia and then-Judge Kavanaugh during his tenure on the D.C. Circuit. He noted her decade-long service as a federal prosecutor and her current role as Appellate Chief for the Eastern District of Wisconsin.

Grassley said, "Ms. Taibleson is highly qualified. She’ll be serving on the Seventh Circuit. Her resume speaks for itself."

He emphasized her work protecting communities from violent crime and narcotics, as well as her membership in the Attorney General’s Review Committee on Capital Cases. Grassley also mentioned that during the first Trump administration, Taibleson worked in the Solicitor General’s office where she drafted briefs and presented oral arguments before the Supreme Court.

Her former colleagues at the Justice Department wrote to commend her ability to handle complex legal issues with thoughtful leadership.

Grassley stated, "Most importantly, Ms. Taibleson has consistently demonstrated her steadfast commitment to upholding the rule of law – even at personal cost."

He pointed to two moments in Taibleson's career where she took positions despite potential personal consequences. In 2018, she publicly supported Justice Kavanaugh's Supreme Court nomination despite knowing it would draw public attention. Grassley remarked, "Ms. Taibleson’s voice during that testimony was courageous and very instrumental in Justice Kavanaugh’s confirmation." He also cited her willingness to take on significant cases while working in the Solicitor General's office regardless of political pressure or personal benefit.

"Standing up for the rule of law, without fear or favor, is exactly what we should want to see in our federal judges," Grassley said.

He concluded by urging his colleagues to support Taibleson's nomination: "Ms. Taibleson will make an outstanding judge, and I know she’ll serve the people of Wisconsin and the Seventh Circuit with distinction."

President Trump nominated Rebecca Taibleson for this seat on the appellate court.
