Homeneeds Inc., based in Bellevue, Washington, has announced a recall of 140 packets of Devi brand Cinnamon Powder (Dalchini Powder), batch #2502315, due to potential lead contamination. The recall affects 100-gram packages distributed by Homeneeds Inc. and sold at Apna Bazar in Washington state between May 15, 2025, and October 21, 2025.
The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) detected elevated levels of lead during routine product sampling, prompting the recall. "This recall is being made with the knowledge of the U.S. Food and Drug Administration," according to the company statement.
Short-term exposure to low levels of lead may not cause symptoms, but increased blood lead levels could be an indicator of exposure. High levels of lead can result in severe symptoms requiring medical attention. Children exposed to significant amounts of lead over time may suffer permanent damage to the central nervous system, which can lead to learning disorders and developmental issues. In adults, acute lead poisoning can cause symptoms such as abdominal pain, muscle weakness, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, weight loss, and changes in urinary output. Chronic exposure has been linked to kidney dysfunction, hypertension, and neurocognitive effects.
No illnesses related to this product have been reported so far. Consumers who have purchased the affected cinnamon powder are advised to return it to the place of purchase for a full refund. Individuals who have consumed the product should consult their health care providers about testing for lead exposure.
For further information or questions regarding the recall, consumers can contact Homeneeds Inc. at 425-301-2364 during business hours Monday through Friday.
The company's investigation into how the contamination occurred is ongoing.
