U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) announced on October 29, 2025, that it has arrested several individuals described as dangerous criminal illegal aliens, including those convicted of sexual offenses against minors, assault, and drug trafficking. The arrests occurred despite an ongoing government shutdown.

Assistant Secretary Tricia McLaughlin stated, “The Democrats’ government shutdown will not stop DHS law enforcement from arresting and removing the worst of the worst criminal illegal aliens from American communities. Just yesterday, ICE arrested pedophiles, abusers, violent assailants and drug traffickers from America’s streets. Nothing will slow us down from making America safe again—not even a government shutdown.”

Among those arrested were Elroy Smith from Jamaica, convicted in Philadelphia for unlawful contact with a minor involving sexual offenses and indecent assault of a person less than 13 years old; Joel Ocampo-Martinez from Mexico, convicted in Vernal, Utah for attempted forcible sexual abuse; Luis Mario Martinez-Gonzalez from Mexico, convicted in El Paso County, Texas for assault on a public servant; and Osiris Alexander Rodriguez-Guzman from the Dominican Republic, convicted in Essex Superior Court in Massachusetts for trafficking more than 200 grams of fentanyl.

ICE officials emphasized that their enforcement actions would continue regardless of political or operational obstacles.
