Senate Judiciary Committee Chairman Chuck Grassley (R-Iowa) has released details on 197 subpoenas issued by former Special Counsel Jack Smith and his team as part of the federal investigation known as “Arctic Frost.” The investigation, which targeted President Trump, was initiated at the FBI under the Biden administration.
According to information provided to Grassley through whistleblower disclosures, the subpoenas were sent to 34 individuals and 163 businesses. These requests covered testimony, communications, and records related to more than 430 Republican individuals and entities. The subpoenas sought a wide range of materials, including:
- Communications with media organizations such as CBS, Fox News, Fox Business, Newsmax, Sinclair, and others.
- Interactions with members or staff of the U.S. Legislative Branch.
- Correspondence with White House advisors like Stephen Miller, Dan Scavino, Jared Kushner, Lara Trump, among others.
- Data concerning donors and fundraising activities.
- Financial information from conservative individuals and groups.
Grassley disclosed these findings during a press conference held alongside Senator Ron Johnson (R-Wis.), who chairs the Senate Permanent Subcommittee on Investigations, and other members of the Senate Judiciary Committee.
At the press conference Grassley stated:
“Arctic Frost was the vehicle by which partisan FBI agents and DOJ prosecutors could improperly investigate the entire Republican political apparatus. Contrary to what [Jack] Smith has said publicly, this was clearly a fishing expedition.
“If this happened to the Democrats, they’d be as rightly outraged as we are.
“We’re making these records public in the interest of transparency and so that the American people can draw their own conclusions.”
A comprehensive list of all organizations and individuals subpoenaed is available online. Copies of the subpoenas have also been made accessible for public review.
The release comes after months of oversight activity led by Grassley’s office. Previous actions included demands for telecommunications companies to turn over records given to Smith’s team and public hearings on FBI conduct during Arctic Frost. Earlier this year, it was revealed that cell phones belonging to Donald Trump and Mike Pence had been obtained by investigators in connection with Arctic Frost. Additionally, there have been reports that eight Republican senators were monitored during this probe.
Grassley’s ongoing oversight efforts continue to bring attention to how federal law enforcement agencies conducted their investigation into Republican figures associated with former President Trump.
