The Department of Justice has announced that Baltimore County, Maryland, is no longer considered a sanctuary jurisdiction. The change comes after the county signed a Memorandum of Understanding with U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) to work together on immigration enforcement.
Baltimore County was initially included in a list of sanctuary jurisdictions published by the Department of Justice on August 5, 2025. The list was created in line with President Donald J. Trump’s Executive Order 14287. Baltimore County is now the second jurisdiction to be removed from this list after discussions between federal officials and county representatives.
Following the update, Associate Attorney General Stanley Woodward said: “Despite restrictions from state leadership, Baltimore County has shown a willingness to cooperate with federal immigration enforcement. This is a small step toward restoring public safety and we appreciate the county’s commitment to updating its policies.”
The removal reflects ongoing efforts by the federal government to encourage local cooperation with immigration authorities as outlined in recent executive actions.
