House Energy and Commerce Committee appoints Michael Essington as chief counsel

Congressman Brett Guthrie, who serves as Chairman of the House Committee on Energy and Commerce, has named Michael Essington as the new Chief Counsel for the Subcommittee on Communications and Technology.

Essington brings experience from both government and private sector roles. He most recently worked at EchoStar Corporation as Senior Manager of Government Affairs, where he led engagement with Capitol Hill Republicans and the Trump Administration. Prior to his time at EchoStar, Essington spent over eight years in various roles on Capitol Hill, including serving as General Counsel for Senator Todd Young with a focus on commerce, telecom, and media policy.

In addition to his public service, Essington has experience working in an Am Law 100 law firm in Chicago and served more than six years in the U.S. Marine Corps Reserve. He holds a law degree from Chicago-Kent College of Law and bachelor’s degrees in philosophy and accounting from Cedarville University.
