U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) has received over 35,000 applications for its new Homeland Defenders positions since launching a hiring campaign on September 30. This figure marks the highest number of applications for any single job in the agency’s history.
The recruitment effort is part of an initiative to bring in individuals who will work on tasks such as interviewing non-citizens, reviewing immigration applications, and identifying those with criminal backgrounds or other ineligibilities. USCIS stated that it is reducing bureaucratic procedures to speed up hiring and has already extended hundreds of job offers.
“The Homeland Defender Campaign has already been a tremendous success and has resonated with the American people. I’m pleased to announce that in addition to seeing a historic number of applications, we are starting to bring on applicants at a rapid pace,” said USCIS Director Joseph Edlow. “USCIS is not wasting time; we are committed to implementing President Trump’s priorities. These candidates are not just applying for a job—they are applying to guard our values and defend our homeland. I look forward to onboarding many more Homeland Defenders in the coming weeks.”
Many of those offered jobs include former law enforcement officers and military veterans with experience in public safety roles.
The agency is offering incentives such as signing bonuses up to $50,000, student loan repayment programs, flexible duty locations, remote work options for some roles, and expedited hiring processes for entry-level positions that do not require college degrees.
On-the-spot job offers may be made at upcoming job fairs as part of efforts to further streamline recruitment. Information about open positions can be found at https://uscis.gov/join and https://uscis.usajobs.gov.
