A Houston business owner has admitted to failing to pay more than $1.6 million in employment taxes withheld from employee wages, according to U.S. Attorney Nicholas J. Ganjei.
Harry Lamar Curtis III, former certified public accountant and owner of Information Advisory Group LLC, a cybersecurity and IT company in Houston, was responsible for withholding and paying over all required employment taxes from his employees' paychecks. These included federal income taxes, FICA taxes, and employer matching contributions.
Curtis acknowledged as part of his plea that he did not file any business tax returns for Information Advisory Group LLC since 2016, despite being trained as a CPA. He improperly withheld $1,647,142 during this period that should have been paid to the IRS.
Additionally, Curtis admitted that he had not filed individual tax returns for himself since 2008.
Sentencing is scheduled before U.S. District Judge Sim Lake on February 12, 2026. Curtis could face up to five years in federal prison and a maximum fine of $250,000.
He has been allowed to remain on bond until the sentencing hearing.
The investigation was conducted by IRS-Criminal Investigation. Assistant U.S. Attorney Brad Gray is prosecuting the case.
