Christopher Davies, a 31-year-old resident of Cape Coral, has pleaded guilty to making threats against the President of the United States. The announcement was made by Gregory W. Kehoe, U.S. Attorney for the Middle District of Florida. Davies could face up to five years in federal prison. A sentencing date has not been determined.
Court documents reveal that Davies sent a letter to an official at Charlotte Correctional Institution expressing his intent to kill then-President Donald Trump. In the letter, he wrote that he had "orchestrated the most daring Presidential assassination that this country has ever seen," and stated "Donald J. Trump must perish." When questioned by Secret Service agents, Davies admitted writing the letter and said he wanted to kill the President. He also told agents that if President Trump were near him, he would attempt to kill him with his bare hands.
The United States Secret Service conducted the investigation into this case. Assistant United States Attorney Patrick L. Darcey is prosecuting.
According to officials, although this incident occurred previously, it was not reported at the time due to a government shutdown. The press release was published after normal operations resumed.
