A Guatemalan national, Alvaro Carrillo, 32, appeared in federal court after being charged with assaulting federal officers. The charges stem from an incident on November 11, 2025, when border patrol agents working with Immigration and Customs Enforcement stopped a silver Saturn sedan. According to court documents, law enforcement identified themselves to Carrillo and tried to remove him from the vehicle after he did not comply with their commands.
Carrillo allegedly drove away from the scene and struck a border patrol vehicle during the pursuit. After more than ten minutes, he lost control of his car and hit a concrete curb. He then exited the vehicle, assumed a fighting stance, and attempted to flee on foot before being apprehended by officers about thirty yards away. During the arrest, Carrillo reportedly resisted officers.
Carrillo made his initial appearance before a U.S. Magistrate Judge in Portland and was ordered detained while awaiting further proceedings.
Homeland Security Investigations is leading the investigation into this case. The U.S. Attorney’s Office for the District of Oregon is prosecuting.
"A criminal complaint is only an accusation of a crime, and a defendant is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty," according to officials.
