Terry Thompson, a 33-year-old resident of Washington, D.C., has been sentenced to 24 years in prison for the killing of Christopher Callahan, a 64-year-old disabled man. The incident occurred on May 15, 2023, in the parking lot of a 7-Eleven located at 3900 Martin Luther King, Jr. Blvd in Southwest Washington.
Thompson pleaded guilty to second degree murder while armed on April 4, 2025. On October 31, Judge Rainey Brandt handed down the sentence for the fatal shooting.
According to court documents, Thompson approached Callahan as he sat on his walker next to his car. Thompson had concealed a rifle in a duffle bag and pointed it at Callahan's face. When Callahan attempted to push the weapon away, Thompson stepped back and fired one shot into Callahan’s neck, resulting in his immediate death. After initially leaving the scene as bystanders watched, Thompson returned briefly before walking away again without firing another shot.
Thompson was arrested the following day at the same location. He was wearing shoes that still had blood from the victim.
The announcement was made by U.S. Attorney Jeanine Ferris Pirro and joined by Chief Pamela Smith of the Metropolitan Police Department. The case was investigated by the Metropolitan Police Department and prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Joshua Hall with support from Paralegal Specialist Lisa Speight and Victim Assistant Latrice Washington-Williams.
The release notes that information about this case was delayed due to a government shutdown but is now being published following a return to normal operations.
