Atoka man pleads guilty to federal firearm possession charge

An Atoka, Oklahoma resident has pleaded guilty to a federal firearm charge. The United States Attorney’s Office for the Eastern District of Oklahoma announced that Vet Sentrel Colbert, 43, admitted guilt to one count of being a felon in possession of a firearm. This offense carries a maximum penalty of 15 years in prison and a $250,000 fine.

According to the indictment, Colbert knowingly possessed a 9mm Luger caliber semi-automatic pistol on August 3, 2024. He had previously been convicted of an offense punishable by more than one year in prison.

The investigation was conducted by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives and the Choctaw Nation Lighthorse Police.

U.S. Magistrate Judge Gerald L. Jackson accepted Colbert’s plea and ordered a presentence investigation report. A U.S. District Court Judge will determine Colbert’s sentence after reviewing federal sentencing guidelines and other legal factors.

Colbert remains free on bond with conditions while awaiting sentencing. Assistant U.S. Attorney Lewis M. Reagan represented the government in this case.
