Chairman Rick Scott of the U.S. Senate Special Committee on Aging and Senator Ron Johnson, who also chairs the Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee’s Permanent Subcommittee on Investigations, conducted a field hearing in Pacific Palisades, California. The event focused on the aftermath of the January 2025 wildfire in Pacific Palisades and its significant effects on older adults.
The hearing, titled “Forgotten After the Flames: Stories from the Palisades Fire,” was part of an ongoing congressional investigation into the wildfire. Survivors, community leaders, and advocates—including author and podcast host Spencer Pratt—shared their experiences about preparing for evacuation, escaping safely, and attempting to recover after the fire. Many residents continue to face obstacles in rebuilding nearly a year later.
Chairmen Scott and Johnson highlighted the urgent need for relief efforts directed at those affected by the disaster. They also called for accountability from state and local government officials regarding failures during and after the wildfire response. Their goal is to ensure that stronger protections are established to prevent similar events in the future.
