The Department of Justice (DOJ) has announced that federal agencies are required to use the FOIA.gov Annual Report Tool to submit their Fiscal Year 2025 Annual FOIA Reports. The Office of Information Policy (OIP) has updated the Department of Justice Annual FOIA Report Handbook, which serves as an important guide for agencies preparing these reports.
Agency staff who are responsible for compiling their agency's report are encouraged to attend OIP's Annual FOIA Report Refresher Training. This session is scheduled for Thursday, November 20, 2025 at 10 am EST. However, those who have previously attended the training and feel prepared may begin submitting their reports without participating in this year's session.
The DOJ also emphasized that agencies should be aware of key reporting deadlines. These deadlines are outlined in the Agency Reporting Obligations At-A-Glance document to help ensure compliance with all Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) reporting requirements for the upcoming year.
For any questions or concerns regarding the reporting process, agencies can contact DOJ.OIP.FOIA@usdoj.gov.
