New Kensington man indicted for illegal firearm possession as convicted felon

A federal grand jury in Pittsburgh has indicted William Jermaine Rodgers III, a 28-year-old resident of New Kensington, Pennsylvania, on charges related to the possession of a firearm and ammunition as a convicted felon. The announcement was made by First Assistant United States Attorney Troy Rivetti.

The indictment alleges that on or about July 1, 2025, Rodgers possessed both a firearm and ammunition despite having a prior felony conviction. Federal law prohibits individuals with felony convictions from possessing firearms or ammunition.

If convicted, Rodgers faces up to 15 years in prison and a fine of up to $250,000. The actual sentence would be determined based on the seriousness of the offense and Rodgers' criminal history under federal sentencing guidelines.

Assistant United States Attorney Kelly M. Locher is prosecuting the case for the government. The investigation was conducted by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives along with the Allegheny County Sheriff’s Office.

Authorities emphasized that an indictment is only an accusation and that Rodgers is presumed innocent unless proven guilty in court.
