Senate committee approves six nominees for commerce and transportation roles

The U.S. Senate Committee on Commerce, Science, and Transportation has approved six nominations for key positions in the Departments of Commerce and Transportation. The decisions were made during an executive session held in Washington, D.C.

Stephen Carmel was confirmed as Administrator of the Maritime Administration with 21 votes in favor and 7 against. Laura DiBella was approved to serve as a Federal Maritime Commissioner by a vote of 20 to 8.

Ethan Klein received approval to become Associate Director of the Office of Science and Technology Policy with a narrow margin of 15 yeas to 13 nays. Trent Morse was also confirmed as a Member of the Board of Directors for the Metropolitan Washington Airports Authority by the same vote count.

Timothy Petty will take on the role of Assistant Secretary of Commerce for Oceans and Atmosphere after being approved with 21 votes in favor and 7 against. Michelle Schultz was confirmed as a Member of the Surface Transportation Board with an 18-10 vote.

These appointments are expected to fill important roles across transportation, maritime administration, science policy, airport management, oceanic affairs, and surface transportation oversight.
