Shata Traders recalls milk pan over potential lead contamination

ORGANIZATIONS IN THIS STORY

Shata Traders Inc, based in Brooklyn, New York, has issued a recall for its Chef Brand Milk Pan 24 cm due to concerns over possible lead contamination. The company stated that the product may contain significant levels of lead that could leach into food. Lead exposure is considered dangerous for people of all ages and health conditions, with no safe level identified.

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) collected samples of the product from a retail store and determined through analysis that the pans contained leachable lead at levels harmful to humans. According to Shata Traders Inc, "Lead is toxic to humans and can affect people of any age or health status, and there is no known safe level of exposure to lead. Even low levels of lead exposure can cause serious health problems, particularly in children and fetuses. Consuming food with elevated lead levels can contribute to elevated levels of lead in the blood. Children and babies are more susceptible to lead toxicity due to their smaller body size, metabolism, and rapid growth. At low levels, children may not have obvious symptoms but can still experience trouble learning, low IQ, and behavior changes. At higher levels of lead exposure, people may experience fatigue, headache, stomach pain, vomiting, or neurologic changes."

The affected pans were distributed in several states including New York, New Jersey, Connecticut, Maryland, Virginia and Massachusetts. The product is packaged as six pieces per box but is sold individually at retail locations.

As of now, there have been no reported illnesses related to this recall.

Consumers who purchased the Chef Brand Milk Pan 24 cm are advised to stop using it immediately and return it to the place of purchase for a full refund. For further information or questions about the recall process, customers are encouraged to contact Mahboob Rahman at (718) 369-7000.
