A Honduran national, Wilian Serrano-Moreira, was sentenced in New Orleans for illegally reentering the United States after being previously deported. Acting United States Attorney Michael M. Simpson announced that Serrano-Moreira, 34, received his sentence on October 9, 2025, following a guilty plea to violating Title 8, United States Code, Section 1326(a).
Court documents show that Serrano-Moreira was discovered in the U.S. on April 15, 2023. He had returned without authorization from the Attorney General after his earlier removal from the country on July 17, 2019.
U.S. District Judge Nannette Jolivette Brown sentenced Serrano-Moreira to time served—six months—and ordered him to pay a $100 mandatory special assessment fee and serve one year of supervised release. After sentencing, he was remanded into custody by the United States Marshals.
This prosecution is part of Operation Take Back America. According to the Department of Justice, this initiative uses federal resources to address illegal immigration and combat transnational criminal organizations as well as violent crime by coordinating efforts through programs such as Organized Crime Drug Enforcement Task Forces (OCDETFs) and Project Safe Neighborhoods (PSN).
