A Dominican national has been sentenced in federal court in Boston for illegally reentering the United States after previously being deported.

Carlos Yuniol Pimentel-Ortiz, 38, received a sentence of 15 months in prison and one year of supervised release from U.S. District Court Judge Myong J. Joun. After serving his sentence, Pimentel-Ortiz will be subject to deportation. He pleaded guilty on October 14, 2025, to one count of unlawful reentry of a deported alien.

Pimentel-Ortiz was removed from the United States in November 2023. Before his removal, he had been convicted in Essex Superior Court in November 2020 for assault with a dangerous weapon, carrying a firearm without a license, and possessing ammunition without a license. In October 2022, he was also convicted in Middlesex Superior Court for possession with intent to distribute fentanyl.

After being deported in November 2023, Pimentel-Ortiz returned to the United States without permission. In March 2025, law enforcement agents executing a drug search warrant at a location in Boston found Pimentel-Ortiz present and determined that he was unlawfully present in the country. He was taken into custody at that time.

United States Attorney Leah B. Foley and Patricia H. Hyde, Field Office Director of U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement’s Enforcement and Removal Operations in Boston announced the sentencing. Assistant U.S. Attorney Robert E. Richardson of the Major Crimes Unit prosecuted the case.
