McKees Rocks man pleads guilty to firearm possession as convicted felon

A McKees Rocks resident has pleaded guilty in federal court to a firearms charge, according to First Assistant United States Attorney Troy Rivetti. Robert Schatzman, 21, admitted to possession of a firearm and ammunition as a convicted felon before United States District Judge Christy Criswell Wiegand.

The court was informed that on April 29, 2025, law enforcement found a Glock 23 .40 caliber pistol and ammunition in an air vent in Schatzman's bedroom during the execution of a search warrant at his home. Schatzman had previously been convicted of robbery in Lawrence County, Pennsylvania. Federal law bars individuals with felony convictions from possessing firearms or ammunition.

Judge Wiegand has set sentencing for March 23, 2026. The offense carries a potential maximum sentence of up to 15 years in prison and a fine of up to $250,000. Sentencing will consider both the seriousness of the crime and Schatzman's criminal history under federal guidelines.

Assistant United States Attorney Kelly M. Locher is prosecuting the case. The investigation was conducted by the Federal Bureau of Investigation.

The case falls under Project Safe Neighborhoods (PSN), an initiative that brings together different levels of law enforcement and communities to address violent crime and gun violence. In May 2021, the Department implemented a strategy focused on building trust within communities, supporting local organizations that prevent violence, prioritizing targeted enforcement actions, and tracking outcomes.
