Mexican national indicted in Texas for illegal reentry after prior deportations

A federal grand jury in the Eastern District of Texas has indicted Juan Saucedo-Espinoza, a 53-year-old Mexican national residing illegally in Athens, Texas, for reentering the United States after being previously deported. The announcement was made by U.S. Attorney Jay R. Combs for the Eastern District of Texas.

According to the indictment, Saucedo-Espinoza was discovered at the Henderson County Jail and identified as a citizen of Mexico who had been deported to Mexico at least twice before returning to the United States.

If found guilty, Saucedo-Espinoza could face up to 10 years in federal prison and subsequent deportation.

The case is part of Operation Take Back America, which aims to use all resources of the Department of Justice to address illegal immigration, eliminate cartels and transnational criminal organizations, and protect communities from violent crime.

Homeland Security Investigations is leading the investigation, while Assistant U.S. Attorney Jim Noble is prosecuting the case.

“A federal indictment is not evidence of guilt. All defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law,” according to the statement from authorities.
