Mexican national indicted for illegal reentry in eastern Texas

A Mexican national residing illegally in Henderson, Texas, has been indicted for unlawfully returning to the United States. The announcement was made by Jay R. Combs, Acting United States Attorney for the Eastern District of Texas.

Antonio Oliveros-Montero, 45, was charged this week by a federal grand jury in the Eastern District of Texas with illegal reentry after deportation. According to the indictment, Oliveros-Montero was identified as a citizen of Mexico while being held at the Rusk County Jail and was found to be in the country illegally following a previous deportation.

If convicted, Oliveros-Montero could face up to 10 years in federal prison and subsequent deportation.

"This case is part of Operation Take Back America a nationwide initiative that marshals the full resources of the Department of Justice to repel the invasion of illegal immigration, achieve the total elimination of cartels and transnational criminal organizations (TCOs), and protect our communities from the perpetrators of violent crime," according to officials.

The investigation is being conducted by Homeland Security Investigations and prosecution is led by Assistant U.S. Attorney Jim Noble.

Authorities remind that "a federal indictment is not evidence of guilt. All defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law."
