HUD supports over one million Americans in homeownership efforts during 2025

The U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) reported that more than one million Americans have been assisted in achieving homeownership or maintaining housing affordability this year through programs managed by the Federal Housing Administration (FHA) and the Government National Mortgage Association (Ginnie Mae).

HUD Secretary Scott Turner stated, “President Trump’s bold leadership is empowering HUD to use every tool at our disposal to make the American dream of homeownership a reality. HUD is putting American families first and the results speak for themselves. We will not stop slashing regulations and promoting policies that put families first until young Americans have the same opportunities for homeownership their parents and grandparents once had.”

Since January 2025, FHA has insured mortgages for over 700,000 individuals, including almost 438,000 first-time homebuyers and more than 19,000 senior homeowners. Additionally, Ginnie Mae has supported upwards of 430,000 Veterans Affairs loans; nearly one-third of these went to veterans purchasing their first homes.

Despite recent government shutdowns and high interest rates, Ginnie Mae reported strong performance in October 2025 with $50.2 billion in mortgage loan securitizations. This figure includes support for over 61,000 loans to first-time homebuyers as well as more than 53,000 VA loans.
