Mexican national sentenced to prison for unlawful reentry in eastern Oklahoma

Angel Urbina-Ramirez, a 54-year-old Mexican national, has been sentenced to 10 months in federal prison for unlawful reentry after removal, according to the United States Attorney’s Office for the Eastern District of Oklahoma. Urbina-Ramirez was found in LeFlore County, Oklahoma, without legal authorization to be in the country.

The case followed an investigation by U.S. Department of Homeland Security’s Immigration and Customs Enforcement Division and the Poteau Police Department. Investigators reported that Urbina-Ramirez was discovered on June 13, 2025, in the United States after previously being removed on January 30, 2018. He did not have consent from the Secretary of Homeland Security to reapply for admission.

Urbina-Ramirez pleaded guilty to one count of unlawful reentry on July 21, 2025.

According to the press release, “This case is part of Operation Take Back America, a nationwide initiative that marshals the full resources of the Department of Justice to repel the invasion of illegal immigration, achieve the total elimination of cartels and transnational criminal organizations (TCOs), and protect our communities from the perpetrators of violent crime. Operation Take Back America streamlines efforts and resources from the Department’s Organized Crime Drug Enforcement Task Forces (OCDETFs) and Project Safe Neighborhood (PSN).”

The sentencing hearing was presided over by U.S. District Judge John F. Heil III in Muskogee. Urbina-Ramirez will remain in custody pending transfer to a Bureau of Prisons facility for his non-paroleable sentence.

Assistant U.S. Attorney Erin Cornell prosecuted the case.
