A federal grand jury in Alaska has indicted a Fairbanks resident on charges related to firearms trafficking, cocaine distribution, and possessing a machinegun during a drug trafficking crime. The indictment alleges that Mason Lanon, 22, conducted business as an unlicensed firearms dealer between September 2024 and August 2025.

According to court documents, Lanon is also accused of distributing cocaine and possessing a pistol equipped with a Glock-type machinegun conversion device on August 7, 2025. He faces one count each of unlicensed dealing in firearms, distribution of a controlled substance, and carrying a machinegun during a drug trafficking crime.

Lanon’s initial court appearance is scheduled for November 25, 2025 before U.S. Magistrate Judge Oravec in the U.S. District Court for the District of Alaska. If convicted, he could face between 30 years and life in prison. Sentencing will be determined by a federal district court judge based on the U.S. Sentencing Guidelines and other statutory factors.

U.S. Attorney Michael J. Heyman of the District of Alaska announced the indictment along with Acting Special Agent in Charge Eric Jackson of the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) Seattle Field Division, Alaska State Trooper Colonel Maurice Hughes, and Chief Ron Dupee of the Fairbanks Police Department.

The investigation is being conducted by the ATF Anchorage Field Office, Alaska State Troopers, and Fairbanks Police Department with support from the DEA Anchorage Field Office. Authorities encourage anyone with information about Lanon’s alleged firearms activities to contact ATF at (907) 921-6131.

Assistant U.S. Attorney Carly Vosacek is prosecuting the case.

“An indictment is merely an allegation, and all defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law.”
