Omaha man pleads guilty to illegal re-entry after multiple deportations

Timothy T. Duax U.S. Attorney | U.S. Attorney for the Northern District of Iowa

A man residing in Omaha, Nebraska, has pleaded guilty in federal court in Sioux City to illegally re-entering the United States after previously being deported as a felon.

Julio Cesar Moreno-Anaya, 47, admitted during his plea hearing that he re-entered the country without authorization. He also acknowledged having a prior felony theft conviction from 2016 in Hidalgo County, Texas. Authorities arrested Moreno-Anaya on September 15, 2025, in Britt, Iowa, for speeding and driving without a valid license. While he was in custody, officials identified him as a Mexican citizen who had been deported to Mexico eight times before.

Moreno-Anaya is currently being held pending sentencing. His sentencing will be scheduled following the preparation of a presentence report by United States District Court Judge Leonard T. Strand. He faces up to ten years in prison, a $250,000 fine, and three years of supervised release after any imprisonment.

The case is being prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Patrick T. Greenwood and was investigated by the Hancock County Sheriff’s Office and United States Immigration and Customs Enforcement.
