A Superior Court jury in Washington, D.C., has found Julius Worthy, 42, guilty of second-degree murder, assault with intent to kill, and related charges for the killing of Orlando Galloway and the attack on Shaquia Lewis. The verdict was announced by U.S. Attorney Jeanine Ferris Pirro.
The incident occurred on April 2, 2023, when Worthy lived with Galloway in a Capitol Hill apartment. According to court findings, an argument over $20 escalated after Worthy returned home that evening. During the confrontation, Worthy shot Galloway eight times—six bullets struck him—then stabbed him five times in the neck with a kitchen knife. He also beat Galloway in the face with the firearm until part of it broke.
Worthy then attacked Lewis by stabbing her multiple times and strangling her until she lost consciousness. He remained at the scene for over an hour with Galloway’s body and Lewis present. During this time, he called several people asking for help “cleaning up this mess,” and stated he was “killing two people.” When Lewis attempted to escape through the front door, Worthy attacked her again using scissors.
A neighbor heard Lewis screaming and saw her being attacked by Worthy before calling 911. Police responded quickly, but Worthy fled out the back door. Law enforcement later discovered text messages from Worthy admitting to having killed two people.
Worthy was arrested on April 3, 2023, and has been held in custody since then.
Sentencing is scheduled for January 30, 2026 before Judge Jason Park. Worthy faces a maximum possible sentence of 95 years in prison.
Chief Pamela Smith of the Metropolitan Police Department joined U.S. Attorney Pirro in announcing the verdict. The Metropolitan Police Department’s Homicide Branch led the investigation. Assistant U.S. Attorneys William Lawrence and Molly Smith prosecuted the case.
