Fayetteville man sentenced to over 20 years for firearms offense

David Clay Fowlkes, U.S. Attorney | U.S. Attorney for the Western District of Arkansas

A Fayetteville man, Torrance Dejuan Farmer, Sr., 51, has been sentenced to 248 months in federal prison for being a felon in possession of a firearm. The sentencing took place on November 21 before Chief Judge Timothy L. Brooks at the United States District Court in Fayetteville. Farmer was convicted by a jury last August after a two-day trial.

Court evidence showed that Farmer became involved in an altercation with his daughter regarding missing drug proceeds and threatened her life. He then ordered his wife to pursue his daughter by vehicle while displaying a firearm. During the pursuit, Farmer fired the weapon near Braum’s restaurant at 2511 North College Avenue in Fayetteville.

A Fayetteville Police Officer later found Farmer’s vehicle near Drake Street. As police pursued them, both Farmer and his wife fled from law enforcement. The officer observed Farmer throw the firearm onto the Interstate 49 overpass during the chase. The pursuit ended soon after, and both were taken into custody.

Farmer is classified as an Armed Career Criminal under federal law due to previous felony convictions for violent crimes and serious drug offenses.

U.S. Attorney David Clay Fowlkes of the Western District of Arkansas announced the sentence.

The case was investigated by the Fayetteville Police Department and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives. Assistant U.S. Attorneys David Harris, Dustin Roberts, and Kevin Eaton prosecuted for the government.

This prosecution falls under Operation Take Back America, which uses resources from the Department of Justice to address illegal immigration, eliminate cartels and transnational criminal organizations, and protect communities from violent crime.
