Wegmans Food Markets has issued a recall for Locatelli Grated Pecorino Romano Cheese sold with Wegmans’ scale labels due to possible contamination with Listeria monocytogenes. The bacteria can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in children, elderly individuals, and those with weakened immune systems. Symptoms of infection may include high fever, severe headache, stiffness, nausea, abdominal pain, and diarrhea. Pregnant women are at risk of miscarriages or stillbirths from Listeria infection.

The recalled cheese was available in Wegmans stores across Connecticut, Delaware, Maryland, Massachusetts, North Carolina, New Jersey, New York, Pennsylvania, Virginia, and Washington D.C. between November 14 and November 24, 2025. It was sold in plastic tubs labeled Locatelli Grated Pecorino Romano Cheese with the UPC 2-77580-XXXXX-7; all lot codes have been recalled and removed from store shelves.

No illnesses have been reported so far. The recall was initiated after the supplier informed Wegmans about the potential contamination.

Consumers who bought this cheese are encouraged to return it for a full refund. Customers seeking more information can contact Wegmans Food Markets at 1-855-934-3663 during specified hours starting Wednesday, November 26.

Wegmans operates 114 stores along the east coast and has been recognized by Fortune as one of the ‘100 Best Companies to Work For’ for 28 consecutive years.
