Coin Center launches CC Foundation enabling tax-deductible donations

Coin Center has announced the creation of a new sister organization, CC Foundation, which is registered as a 501(c)(3) nonprofit. This move allows supporters to make tax-deductible contributions in support of Coin Center’s work defending innovators developing permissionless software.

The organization highlighted several ways for donors to contribute to the CC Foundation. Tax-deductible donations are available for amounts over $5,000 and can be made by credit card through their donation page or via ACH or wire transfer by contacting Antonie@coincenter.org.

For those who prefer donor-advised funds (DAFs), the foundation accepts grants from providers such as Fidelity Charitable, Schwab Charitable, and BNY Mellon Charitable Gift Fund through DAFdirect. Donors using other DAFs can use the foundation’s EIN 33-3365966 and may contact Antonie@coincenter.org with any questions.

The foundation also accepts direct cryptocurrency donations. According to Coin Center, donating appreciated crypto assets may help eliminate capital-gains taxes and potentially qualify for a charitable deduction. For gifts of crypto valued over $5,000, donors generally need a qualified appraisal for IRS reporting purposes. Coin Center noted that they are “working with Congress to fix” this particular tax policy issue.

A statement from Coin Center reads: “Coin Center’s critical work defending the innovators building permissionless software has been made possible by the generous contributions of those in the community who believe in our mission.”

CC Foundation operates under the name Coin Center as a 501(c)(3) organization; donations are tax-deductible within legal limits. The foundation's tax ID number is 33-3365966. Supporters are advised to consult their own tax advisors regarding their individual circumstances.
