The Council for Agricultural Science and Technology (CAST) announced on Mar. 18 the addition of four new members to its Strategic Advisory Council, expanding the council’s expertise as it evaluates the potential evolution of CAST into the National Academy of Agriculture.

The expansion is intended to strengthen the council’s ability to provide guidance on challenges and opportunities in U.S. agricultural science and technology. The new members bring experience in environmental law, technology development, federal policy, and sustainable investment.

Formed in December 2025, the Strategic Advisory Council is tasked with assessing and recommending steps for CAST to serve effectively as a national academy. As agriculture faces rapid technological changes and shifting global needs, CAST aims to gather expert input for future planning. "CAST is grateful for the commitment these individuals bring to the SAC," said Chris Boomsma, CEO of CAST. "Their affiliations and leadership experiences will meaningfully contribute to the council’s work as we evaluate how CAST can best serve the nation in this next phase."
