A Mexican national has been sentenced to two years in prison for illegally re-entering the United States after being deported, according to an announcement from U.S. Attorney Prim F. Escalona.
Cristofer Ruben Pecero-Ramirez, 27, was sentenced by United States District Judge Liles C. Burke to 24 months in prison following his guilty plea for illegal re-entry after deportation.
Court documents indicate that Pecero-Ramirez was first removed from the country on August 12, 2024. He returned and was found in the United States just 11 days later, leading to a second removal on August 26, 2024. A little over a month after his second removal, he was arrested in Columbiana, Alabama by an officer with the Alabaster Police Department on two counts of unlawful possession of a controlled substance. The Immigration and Customs Enforcement Deportation Removal Office (ICE/ERO) in Birmingham learned of his arrest through the Alien Criminal Response Information Management System (ACRIME), and he was subsequently transferred into federal custody.
The case was investigated by Homeland Security Investigations and the Alabaster Police Department. Assistant U.S. Attorney Olivia Brame prosecuted the case.
"This case is part of Operation Take Back America a nationwide initiative that marshals the full resources of the Department of Justice to repel the invasion of illegal immigration, achieve the total elimination of cartels and transnational criminal organizations (TCOs), and protect our communities from the perpetrators of violent crime," according to information provided in connection with this sentencing.
