Kenner man receives probation for theft of social security funds

A Kenner resident has been sentenced for theft of government funds, according to an announcement from Acting United States Attorney Michael M. Simpson. Johnren Gaines, 28, was sentenced on November 20, 2025, after being found guilty of violating Title 18, United States Code, Section 641.

Court documents show that between May 2019 and April 2022, Gaines accessed and converted about $49,232.40 in Social Security Administration funds.

United States District Judge Barry W. Ashe sentenced Gaines to two years of probation. Of this period, six months will be served under home incarceration. Gaines was also ordered to pay restitution totaling $49,232.40 and a mandatory special assessment fee of $100.

Acting U.S. Attorney Simpson expressed appreciation for the help provided by the Social Security Administration’s Office of the Inspector General in the investigation. "The prosecution of this case is being handled by Assistant U.S. Attorney Brian M. Klebba, Chief of the Financial Crimes Unit, and Special Assistant U.S. Attorney Mary Anne Flippo."
