Hammond man receives eight-year sentence for drug distribution offenses

Fernando Porras Jr., a 64-year-old resident of Hammond, Indiana, has been sentenced to eight years in federal prison after pleading guilty to charges of distributing methamphetamine and cocaine. The sentencing was handed down by United States District Court Judge Gretchen S. Lund, as announced by Acting United States Attorney M. Scott Proctor.

Porras Jr. will also serve four years of supervised release following his prison term.

Court documents show that on January 22, 2024, Porras Jr. sold methamphetamine and cocaine at a gas station in Gary, Indiana. Between May 2023 and March 2024, he also sold methamphetamine, fentanyl, and cocaine on multiple occasions in Dolton, Illinois and Gary. He has a previous conviction for dealing LSD.

The investigation was conducted by the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) and the Lake County Combined Task Force under the Indiana High Intensity Drug Trafficking Areas program. The DEA’s North Central Laboratory provided assistance during the case. Assistant U.S. Attorney Michael J. Toth prosecuted the case.
