Former Okfuskee County jailer pleads guilty to federal civil rights charge

A former jailer from Okfuskee County has pleaded guilty to a federal civil rights violation for assaulting an inmate. According to the United States Attorney’s Office for the Eastern District of Oklahoma, Donovan Matthew Pruett, 24, admitted guilt to one count of Deprivation of Rights Under Color of Law.

Prosecutors stated that on September 28, 2024, while working as a jailer at the Okfuskee County Jail, Pruett physically assaulted a restrained inmate. The incident resulted in bodily injury to the victim.

The plea was accepted by U.S. Magistrate Judge Gerald L. Jackson in Muskogee. Judge Jackson also ordered a presentence investigation report ahead of sentencing.

Sentencing will be determined by a U.S. District Court Judge who will consider both federal sentencing guidelines and other statutory factors.
