House subcommittees announce hearing on technology's impact on lowering healthcare costs

The House Subcommittee on Economic Growth, Energy Policy, and Regulatory Affairs, led by Chairman Eric Burlison (R-Mo.), and the Subcommittee on Health Care and Financial Services, chaired by Glenn Grothman (R-Wis.), have scheduled a hearing to discuss how technology can help reduce healthcare costs in the United States. The session is titled “Lowering the Cost of Healthcare: Technology’s Role in Driving Affordability” and will take place on Wednesday, December 10, 2025, at 10:00 a.m. ET in HVC-210 at the U.S. Capitol Visitors Center.

Lawmakers plan to review factors contributing to rising healthcare expenses nationwide. They intend to focus particularly on regulatory policies from the Biden administration that they believe may be increasing costs. The hearing will also explore ways that technological innovation could make healthcare more affordable for Americans.

“Overbearing regulations and exorbitant costs should not get in the way of Americans accessing essential healthcare for themselves and their families. Private sector technological innovation can help lower the cost of healthcare and alleviate the burdens many Americans face by implementing automated systems that improve efficiency, reduce errors, and enhance preventative care. We look forward to hearing from experts about new breakthroughs in medical technology and explore the ways that Congress can help lower healthcare costs for Americans across the country,” said Burlison and Grothman.

Expert witnesses scheduled to testify include Brian Whorley, Chief Executive Officer of Paytient Technologies; Dr. Darius Lakdawalla from the University of Southern California; Dr. Ziad Obermeyer from University of California-Berkeley; and Chris Jacobs, Founder of Juniper Research Group.

The event is open to the public and will be livestreamed online.
