Mondelez recalls select Ritz peanut butter cracker sandwiches due to mislabeling

ORGANIZATIONS IN THIS STORY

Mondelēz Global LLC has announced a voluntary recall of 70 cases of RITZ Peanut Butter Cracker Sandwiches distributed in New York, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Georgia, Arkansas, Missouri, Oklahoma, and Alabama. The recall is limited to one SKU and two code dates that were previously recalled in July. The company stated this action is not an expansion of the prior recall and is being conducted as a precaution.

The issue involves individually wrapped packs that may be mislabeled as the Cheese variety while containing the Peanut Butter variety. This could pose a risk for people with peanut allergies or sensitivities. According to Mondelēz Global LLC, "People who have an allergy or severe sensitivity to peanuts may risk serious or life-threatening allergic reactions by consuming this product."

All affected outer cartons are labeled correctly and include an allergen advisory indicating the presence of peanuts. Only specific RITZ Peanut Butter Cracker Sandwich cartons with certain Best When Used By Dates are involved in this recall. Other RITZ products or products from Mondelēz Global LLC are not included.

The company reported no injuries or illnesses related to this product so far. "There have been no reports of injury or illness reported to Mondelēz Global LLC to date related to this product, and we are issuing this recall out of an abundance of caution." The recall was initiated after it was discovered that 70 cases had been inadvertently shipped to select retailers in eight states.

Consumers with peanut allergies are advised not to eat these products and should discard any affected items. For questions, consumers can contact the company at 1-844-366-1171 during business hours.

"This recall is being conducted with the knowledge of the U.S. Food and Drug Administration," according to Mondelēz Global LLC.

Mondelēz International operates in over 150 countries and reported net revenues of about $36.4 billion in 2024. More information about the company can be found at www.mondelezinternational.com or on X at www.x.com/MDLZ.
