A federal grand jury has indicted Michael Lee Kelton, 44, of Gadsden, Alabama, for allegedly possessing a firearm as a convicted felon. The announcement was made by U.S. Attorney Prim F. Escalona.
The indictment alleges that on July 29, 2025, Kelton had a Glock .45 semi-automatic pistol in his possession. Due to eight prior felony convictions for drug offenses and theft between 2009 and 2024, Kelton is prohibited from owning or possessing firearms.
The investigation involved the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF), the Etowah County Drug Task Force, the Etowah County Sheriff’s Office, and the Atalla Police Department. Assistant U.S. Attorney Davis A. Barlow is prosecuting the case.
"An indictment contains only charges. Defendants are presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty," according to the release.
