Georgia man pleads guilty in Florida wire fraud case

Kimani Brennen Fletcher, a 26-year-old resident of Covington, Georgia, has pleaded guilty to conspiracy to commit wire fraud in federal court. Fletcher could face up to 20 years in prison for his role in the scheme.

According to court records, between April 15 and April 22, 2024, Fletcher's co-conspirators contacted victims by phone while pretending to be members of the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office. The callers falsely claimed that the victims had outstanding warrants and needed to pay money to avoid being arrested. Fletcher acted as a bail bondsman and collected money from these individuals in the Middle District of Florida. After receiving approximately $40,800 from the victims, he delivered the funds to his associates.

The United States Secret Service and the Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office investigated this case. Assistant United States Attorney Ilyssa M. Spergel is prosecuting it.

"United States Attorney Gregory W. Kehoe announces that Kimani Brennen Fletcher (26, Covington, GA) has pleaded guilty to conspiracy to commit wire fraud. Fletcher faces a maximum penalty of 20 years in federal prison."
