The U.S. Department of Labor has allocated an additional $2,383,398 to aid West Virginia residents impacted by severe storms in February 2025. This funding is intended to sustain disaster-relief jobs and provide employment and training services in the affected areas.

Initially, in May 2025, the department's Employment and Training Administration granted $1 million to WorkForce West Virginia. This emergency National Dislocated Worker Grant was aimed at kickstarting disaster relief efforts while the state evaluated the full extent of the storm damage.

The February storms led to floods, landslides, and mudslides, causing significant destruction across southern and central regions of West Virginia. The newly awarded funds will enable continued support for disaster-relief employment through short-term training and work experience initiatives focused on flood cleanup and recovery.

This Disaster Recovery National Dislocated Worker Grant empowers WorkForce West Virginia to offer temporary jobs centered on cleanup and recovery operations. Additionally, it provides employment and training services to 250 eligible participants within the affected communities.

These grants are supported by the Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act of 2014, which provides financial assistance for direct services in areas experiencing major economic disruptions that surpass local workforce resources.
