The U.S. Department of Labor has partnered with the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) to enhance federal enforcement against discriminatory hiring practices. This collaboration is part of Project Firewall, an initiative aimed at protecting the rights and job opportunities of highly skilled American workers by ensuring employers prioritize qualified Americans in hiring processes.
Secretary of Labor Lori Chavez-DeRemer praised the EEOC for its efforts to prevent discrimination against American workers, noting that new educational materials have been released to emphasize legal protections against national origin discrimination. This includes addressing practices where job openings are advertised exclusively for H-1B visa holders.
Deputy Secretary Keith Sonderling highlighted the importance of federal agencies working together to uphold worker rights. He said, "By sharing data, clarifying employer obligations, and aligning enforcement tools, we are better positioned to prevent discriminatory hiring practices and protect labor market integrity."
EEOC Chair Andrea Lucas expressed commitment to robust investigation and enforcement efforts, stating that such measures are essential in protecting America's workforce from unlawful anti-American discrimination.
Project Firewall involves coordination with other government agencies, including the Civil Rights Division of the Department of Justice and U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services, as part of a comprehensive government effort to combat unlawful discrimination against American workers.
