Slidell man pleads guilty to receiving child sexual abuse material

A Slidell, Louisiana man has pleaded guilty to receiving child sexual abuse material, according to Acting U.S. Attorney Michael M. Simpson. Jonathan Suarez, 29, entered his plea on December 2, 2025 before United States District Judge Wendy B. Vitter.

Court documents show that FBI Special Agents began investigating the online purchase of files depicting child sexual exploitation in early 2024. The investigation identified Suarez as someone who sent and attempted to send money via CashApp to accounts known for distributing such material at least six times between February and August 2023.

Law enforcement executed a search warrant at Suarez’s residence on April 10, 2025 and seized his Apple iPhone 13 Pro Max. A forensic review found at least 186 images and 853 videos—some lasting over 49 minutes—showing the sexual victimization of children. Investigators determined that Suarez downloaded and kept these materials on multiple dates from February 2023 through April 2025, organizing them into about 145 custom file folders with names describing their contents. Some victims depicted were as young as two years old.

Suarez faces a mandatory minimum sentence of five years in prison and up to twenty years if convicted. He also faces at least five years of supervised release, possibly up to life, a fine of up to $250,000, and may be required to register as a sex offender. Sentencing is set for February 26, 2025 before Judge Vitter.

The case is part of Project Safe Childhood, an initiative launched by the Department of Justice in May 2006 aimed at combating child sexual exploitation and abuse nationwide by coordinating federal, state, and local resources to prosecute offenders and rescue victims. Acting U.S. Attorney Simpson commended the Federal Bureau of Investigation for its work on the case. Assistant United States Attorney Jordan Ginsberg is prosecuting.
