A Dorchester resident, Rickey Simmons, 46, has pleaded guilty to a federal charge of being a felon in possession of a firearm and ammunition. The plea was entered before U.S. District Court Senior Judge F. Dennis Saylor IV, who set sentencing for March 6, 2026.

Simmons was charged in January 2025 and indicted by a federal grand jury the following month. According to court documents, on January 28, 2025, Simmons possessed a Tisas Model Zig M1911 .45 caliber firearm along with eight rounds of .45 caliber ammunition and nine rounds of .22 caliber ammunition after having previously been convicted of a felony.

The offense carries a maximum penalty of up to 15 years in prison, three years of supervised release, and a fine that could reach $250,000. Sentencing will be determined by the judge based on the U.S. Sentencing Guidelines and relevant statutes.

United States Attorney Leah B. Foley and Thomas Greco, Special Agent in Charge of the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives announced the plea agreement. Assistant United States Attorneys Mark Grady and Allegra Flamm from the Major Crimes Unit are handling the prosecution.

"The charge of being a felon in possession provides for a sentence of up to 15 years in prison, three years of supervised release and a fine of up to $250,000. Sentences are imposed by a federal district court judge based upon the U.S. Sentencing Guidelines and statutes which govern the determination of a sentence in a criminal case," according to officials.
