Rockland man sentenced to nearly seven years for illegal firearm possession

A Rockland, Massachusetts man has been sentenced to nearly seven years in federal prison for illegally possessing a firearm and ammunition as a convicted felon. Lamont Boswell, 40, received an 83-month prison sentence followed by three years of supervised release from U.S. District Court Judge F. Dennis Saylor IV on December 3, 2025.

Boswell pleaded guilty in September to one count of unlawfully possessing a firearm and ammunition while being a convicted felon, as well as violating the terms of his supervised release.

The charges stem from an incident on April 2, 2025, when law enforcement officers conducted a wellness check after finding Boswell apparently passed out in the driver’s seat of his parked car. Officers discovered a loaded Smith and Wesson semi-automatic handgun inside the vehicle. The gun contained thirteen rounds of 9mm ammunition in the magazine and one round in the chamber.

At the time of this offense, Boswell was under federal supervision following a previous conviction in 2021 for being a felon in possession of a firearm and ammunition. In that earlier case, he was sentenced to 57 months in prison and three years of supervised release after authorities found him with a loaded firearm while driving.

United States Attorney Leah B. Foley stated: "United States Attorney Leah B. Foley and Thomas Greco, Special Agent in Charge of the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms & Explosives, Boston Field Division made the announcement." She added that special assistance came from the Plymouth County District Attorney’s Office and Scituate Police Department. Assistant U.S. Attorney Fred M. Wyshak III prosecuted the case.

The prosecution is part of Operation Take Back America—a national initiative by the Department of Justice focused on combating illegal immigration, eliminating cartels and transnational criminal organizations, and addressing violent crime through collaboration among various federal task forces.
